Filed in archive Research on January 18, 2006
Asked which technology they believe will have the greatest impact on their everyday life ten years from now, respondents to a recent poll ranked nanotechnology number two. No surprise that genetic engineering checked in at number one. The poll, given to a group of more than 2000 people, was conducted by Zogby International, an opinion research firm, on December 15-16, 2005. Find it at Future Brief.
The question: Which of the following technologies do you believe will have the greatest impact on your every-day life ten years from now?
Genetic engineering - Manipulating genetic material: 31%
Nanotechnology - The control of extremely small, sub-atomic matter: 22%
Solar power - Gathering and storing energy from the light of the sun: 15%
Not sure/other: 14%
It will be a technology that has not yet been invented: 12%
Fusion Power - Energy generated from nuclear fusion reactions: 7%
