Sometimes a new technology breeds a new way of working. That' s what seems to be happening at the University of Tokyo and Sharp Corporation as they join forces for nanotech research and development. And unlike public-private partnerships in the US, they' re literally joining forces. Researchers from the Nanoelectronics Collaborative Research Center under the Institute for Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo will work alongside Sharp' s engineers at the new Todai-Sharp Laboratories. The lab will be located on the campus of the University of Tokyo and will be managed jointly by both the university and Sharp.

Sharp says, " these joint efforts aim to nurture creative personnel who will possess both sophisticated expertise and wide-ranging general knowledge through the fusion of the knowledge resources and research methodologies which the University of Tokyo has accumulated over many long years with the leading-edge device technologies and product development capabilities which Sharp has to offer. "

The new academic-corporate hybrid will focus its research efforts on developing flexible electronics. more @ sharp-world.com
