The government is serious about investing resources to research cures for cancer. This includes nanotechnology research aimed at improving patient outcomes. The phrase "nanotech oncology" is a buzzword these days because of the immense amount of research that is being conducted around the world. Will nanotechnology be the magical answer to cure cancer? Or will it be a combination of new drug delivery plus nanotechnology-driven drug delivery mechanisms? I often wonder how we will be treating cancer 20 years from now. There will be so many new drugs and targeted therapies that utilize biologic mechanisms and some of these agents may be delivered using nanotechnology-targeted vectors. Could this combination be the ultimate cure? The answer may come from the NCI Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer.
