House approves full funding of National Nanotechnology Initiative

The US House of Representatives has approved full funding of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) as part of the FY 2007 budget.

"NSF has been the lead agency for the national Nanotechnology Initiative, and will continue to contribute to this emerging technology," said the Appropriations Committee in recommending full NNI funding as part of the budget bill, HR 5672.

"The Committee recommends the full funding level requested for nanotechnology. This level of funding will allow the Foundation to continue to be the leader for this initiative. NSF is encouraged to make sure that public misconceptions of this field are minimized."

The total $4,665,950,000 budget approved for the National Science Foundation represents a 7.9% increase, the first significant increase in NSF funding in many years.
