Distributor doubts nanotech to blame for Magic Nano recall
Filed in archive Business on April 12, 2006
German cleaning product manufacturer Kleinmann GmbH has released a statement saying that it expects that the anti-corrosive liquid inside the recently recalled Magic Nano aerosol bathroom cleaner is to blame for causing respiratory problems in 77 users, instead of the nanomaterials.
The statement says that Kleinmann and its suppliers have not yet been successful in locating the source of the problem. The statement indicates that the aerosol has now been given to various institutes for testing, which is expected to take up to a couple of weeks.
A meeting organized by the Ministry of Health is scheduled for this Friday in Berlin to discuss the source of the problem; another meeting is expected in ten days. According to the statement, Neil McClelland of Nano Products UK fears an unfounded backlash against nanotechnology as a result of the recall, which he thinks would be disastrous because the implications of nanotechnology in healthcare could be massive.
